Hey Jeremie. Really appreciate you engaging with my piece so thoughtfully. You're absolutely right that our journeys started from different places. I think that's the key insight here. I was chasing freedom as an escape from structure and expectation, whereas you found freedom after going through something that fundamentally reordered your priorities.

What strikes me most is how clearly you've identified your WHY. That promise you made to yourself and your son is living with intention. And I think that's exactly what I was trying to get at in my piece: the difference between motion that's reactive versus motion that's purposeful.

Neither of us is right or wrong. We're just at different points with different needs. Looking forward to reading more of you!

Thank you man!

You are 100% right, there is no right or wrong here... just different experiences.

I had this on my mind since reading your post a few weeks ago, and I had to get the thoughts out of my head at some point haha. I love reading a post that really gets me thinking deeply about myself.

"motion that's reactive versus motion that's purposeful." > Oh I love that one! Beautifully said!

Jeremie,

Thanks for sharing. I keep trying to post and instead make a note lol. I need to make time to reflect and write, like a book. I have died 5 times literally and have been extremely depressed bc I am not happy, bc I am afraid of being alone and failing or have my car break down.

But things happen, I am still here!! I still have a grown daughter who is married to a beautiful women. She makes money digitally and owns a huge house, which I always wanted, but I taught her how to get the life she wants,

Sorry rambling… I decided to make sure my car is good and become a nomad. This time when I do the fight and flight, I am making plans, looking at Airbnbs, which seem cheaper than an apartment. I need to get a stamp on passport like lots of them, I will figure it out.

Thanks for your inspiration :)

This was a great read, Jeremie. We all start this nomading experience for different reasons, and I think it's necessary to check in from time to time whether this still feels like the right path. I absolutely applaud you and Rosie for finding a way that works for both of you! You are truly living by the promise you made back then, with intention and authenticity.

Thank you so much Theresa for seeing and saying that 🥹

We do our best to do so… not always easy, but we try!

And yes, we all start for our own reasons, which is why comparing our stories to others and feeling bad about how we are doing it not super helpful.

What motivated you to get started?

It was something we had been talking about for longer, and this year it finally felt like the right timing with family and our jobs (which luckily gave us the freedom to do this).

Not the same as nomading, but when I had been on tour in the theatre for about four years, I started to get the itch for pillows that were mine and my choice of pictures on the wall. After preparing to move abroad, I realized how much of that stuff only served to make me feel both comfortable but also trapped in my life. Letting go of so much has made a huge difference, though I do like having a base!

“that stuff only served to make me feel both comfortable but also trapped in my life.”

» That’s a very good way to present it Gillian. And it’s tricky one. It’s ok - it’s human - to seek comfort. However, how do we make sure we don’t go too far so we get ourselves trapped and owned by those possessions.

Exactly! And consciously letting go of many things helped me see that even the new ones we have acquired here are still only temporary parts of our life because the future is uncertain and everything can change!

100000%. I love this 😃

The key is to not let all those possessions owe us and become burdens stopping us to do what we want.

Learning to let go is so freeing!
