If you're looking for some online community you can come hangout with us in Paul Millerd's pathless path group, we're a bunch of people exploring unconventional lifestyles.
This really captures something so many of us feel but rarely say out loud. Living abroad, building something unconventional — it can look dreamy from the outside, but the questions don’t stop just because the scenery’s better. Thanks for naming the uncertainty without letting it define the story. That’s the kind of honesty we need more of.
Jeremie — I hear your concerns and fears so loud and clear because I shared them when I was traveling also. I think they're important to recognise and ponder, but like you say, ultimately, all you can do is embrace the uncertainty, rather than obsessing about it. People like us have chosen unconventional paths, and there are almost always unconventional ways to deal with each and every one of these concerns and potentially even turn them into perks. Thanks for the interesting read!
When we announced our intention to move abroad, a lot of people bristled at the idea that we were giving up so much “safety and certainty” by selling our home, giving away possessions, leaving jobs…but I started asking people in response, “Does you having a house full of stuff and a job mean you feel totally secure and never worry about what the future holds?”
Good for you for building the life you want, it’s far better than one you’re “supposed” to have that doesn’t suit you!
This fake sense of safety that ‘normal life’ gives is so dangerous, and stops people from living their life… it’s crazy. And I say fake because people have no control over it… they say it’s safe because of things outside of their control.
By opting for an alternative lifestyle, I feel that I actually have much more control over my life.
Also, I can always change my mind and go back to normal life… it’s not like it’s gone forever.
I totally agree—in getting ready to move, a lot of people said it must have been hard to let go of things, but I found the opposite. Not letting stuff hold us back from this dream has been so freeing!

Oh thanks for sharing that. I have to read this book, it's been sitting on my "digital shelf" (Kindle) for so long!

Perfectly said. We all deal with our own shit!

I think too many believe that there is a "right way" to live life, where suddenly all doubts are lifted and everything is perfect.
But truth is, all the money, freedom or whatever else in the world will bring this level of clarity and peace.
Uncertainty is part of being human!
Yes!
