This hit home! I literally stumbled into travel blogging by just... traveling and taking notes. Wasn't trying to build a business, just wanted to document my experiences. Now I'm building digital map products and travel guides, and it all evolved naturally from doing something I loved. Your yoga story mirrors that perfectly - you went to support your partner, not to start a business, but being immersed in it revealed opportunities you never would've seen from the outside. The "best business ideas come when we're not thinking about business" is so true. Also, being an adult beginner is humbling but necessary. I've had to learn so many new skills for this business (AI tools, email marketing, content automation) and the "get over yourself" advice is golden. Nobody cares if we're beginners - they're too busy worrying about their own stuff!

I really enjoyed this and I’m excited to dig more into your work! I live on a sailboat and am exploring the world — looking for adventure, but also (always in the back of my mind) new business opportunities. I left my science & federal policy career for this, so I got skills! I also have tons of passion. But making that jump to starting a business is very foreign — also because I’m not sure what & because we’re so often on the move.

As you mentioned with your love for sports, I wish someone could just pay to me to sail! Haha.

But I do agree I don’t need to be super passionate just to make money. The money supports my passions! That’s a win. I’m just starting to really accept that might be the best way forward.

Consulting may be a great angle for me, though it doesn’t sound particularly “fun.” I also have a lot of distorted core beliefs like “there are more knowledgeable people out there than me.” But this is part of the adventure. Sailing is requiring me to conquer all these doubts — including business ones!

Anyway, thanks for letting me reflect and if you have any feedback, I’d love to hear it.
