How 2020 Shaped My Path to Warrior Flow School | Entrepreneur Chronicles #6
2020 was pivotal for my entrepreneurship journey, leading to Warrior Flow School.
After all my tribulations with starting my own thing, I got involved in two projects in 2020 that sort of incubated my current endeavor.
When the world shut down during the pandemic, and I saw many people around me losing their income, I thought about doing something… and I created PracticeWithMe.Online. My idea was to create a marketplace where people with specific skills could teach/practice with students.
For example, as a yoga teacher, you could share your profile online, letting people check your schedule and book classes. This setup also works for chefs offering cooking classes and various other professions.
My point was to help people who didn’t have the technical knowledge to put that together themselves. Also, I wanted to do it in a way where the teachers/coaches didn’t get ripped off. Very often, studios or middle-men take a big chunk of the money. I didn’t think that was fair, and I wanted the teachers to get paid what they deserved.
I put this together super quickly, assembling a website and integrating other platforms to see availabilities, book a class, and process payments. In total, I got 11 people on the platform (mainly friends I reached out to), and a few of them made a few hundred bucks through it.
It didn’t last long as the lockdown didn’t last long in Miami and in-person events came back quickly.
Reflecting on it, I think this project had legs and is still a pretty good idea. There are many ways to do that online, but most platforms are very generalist and can lack specific features that could be needed. They also take a decent chunk of money from the teachers. I think I could have done something much better with more technical knowledge (to create a real marketplace rather than putting pieces together to emulate one) and some capital.
While working on that, I had a few conversations with Adrian, who was on his side putting together an on-demand yoga platform called Warrior Flow TV. We were already friends by then, but I think those conversations ultimately led me to collaborate with Adrian Molina and Dennis Hunter on Warrior Flow TV and eventually create a new business entity together around the product.
We ran Warrior Flow TV for a couple of years, which really schooled me in running a true business, coordinating with partners, working a team of teachers, establishing processes and strategies etc. This was a big shift from my earlier solo ventures. I also got connected to a lot of people through Adrian’s network with whom I’m still connected and led to various things since then (friendships, other work opportunities, etc).
Those experiences are what ultimately led Adrian and I to start the Warrior Flow School in 2022. We also integrated Warrior Flow TV into the school to streamline our offerings.
After all this journey, here I am today! It took 10 different projects before starting the school to get where I am now.
