The reason I’ve been sharing stories about old projects that didn’t quite take off is to illustrate that there’s no such thing as overnight success (I certainly don’t see myself as successful from an entrepreneurial standpoint… yet). It’s really all about the journey—the trials and errors, the “failures.” I think it’s important to document the process and put it out there, and also to normalize trying new, sometimes seemingly random things, because there’s always something to learn.
So, after My Frenchy Life ☠️, 27Eleven 💻, and WanderEscape ☠️… I’ll group four things together because there isn’t enough to say about each of them individually as they quickly joined the project graveyard 😂:
🗺️ Jeremie’s Travels, a travel blog! I started this without any intention of making money, just to document my travels for family and friends. I wrote posts in both French and English, but after about 10 posts, I stopped ✋. Even though I love the idea of documenting travels, I realized I’m not much of a storyteller in this format, and going through pictures and editing them was a pain—ultimately, I didn’t care enough to invest more time and energy.
🗑️ No One Likes A Dirty Beach. Living in Miami, I was at the beach daily, and seeing all the trash really bothered me, so I often took a bag to collect trash along the way. We also organized a few cleanups which were fun. At one point, I thought about organizing these cleanups myself and branding them.
🎥 YouTube channel. Another attempt to document my life and travels. I knew nothing about video editing then, but technology helped (sort of)! I tweaked the Memories my iPhone created and posted them on YouTube. I stopped after 8 videos (they’re still there, by the way here). I can’t say I learned much, but it did spark a deeper relationship with YouTube!
👶 Our Lost Babies. This isn’t a light topic, but an important one that might become something later. Rosie and I have had four unsuccessful pregnancies, including three miscarriages and one late abortion. We’ve thought about creating something to support others in similar situations. We felt very alone, and surely we weren’t the only ones. We even started a website but haven’t developed it further yet. Rosie recently gave it another shot under a new name, but it’s still early days. This is something we plan to tackle when the time is right, and we figure out the best approach.
Here we are, another four projects for the graveyard 🪦. I can’t say I learned too many lessons or gained new skills from these, but they are all part of the journey!
